The Table

If you're as big a fan of Steve Guttenberg "The Audiophiliac" as we are, you've probably noticed that the Technics SL-1200G is his go-to turntable. It’s been featured in countless videos on his channel, from cartridge reviews to full system breakdowns.

Recenty I had the chance to speak with Steve and received the green light to put together a special package in his honor. He shared how much he values the SL-1200G’s removable headshell while praising its reliable, accurate direct drive system.

The Cartridge

For this tribute package, Steve chose the Lyra Delos MC cartridge - an entry-level model in the Lyra lineup, but one that delivers far beyond its price point. It's mounted on a precision-engineered DS Audio HS-001 headshell, and together they make an excellent pairing with the SL-1200G. We've calibrated this combination many times and it consistently achieves superb results.

The Lyra Delos tracks beautifully and handles even the most demanding test tracks with ease. Despite being Lyra's entry-level model, it competes closely with higher-end cartridges like the Hana ML (Blue) and the Sumiko Starling.

The DS Audio headshell isn't just about looks - though its titanium gray finish on machined Duralumin is stunning. It offers exceptional adjustability, especially for azimuth, ensuring precise setup for optimal performance.

The Cables

We’ve replaced the stock RCA cables with the Kimber Kable TAK-CU featuring German-made WBT locking connectors. As anyone who’s worked with the SL-1200G knows, connecting RCA cables underneath the chassis can be a hassle. Locking connectors mean you only need to do it once, securely. Given how often Steve swaps gear for reviews, we knew this detail would matter.
