Slate Thorens TD-124 SkyFi Ultimate Build with New Sumiko Cartridge and Power Supply

This is a one-off SkyFi ultimate TD-124 build that we recently completed in-house.

We started with a solid slate stone plinth measuring 2" thick and 20" x 21", capable of mounting two tonearms. Then we carefully drilled and tapped holes to accommodate large brass cone feet with bases that also offer adjustable height.

The venerable Thorens TD-124 drive received a full restoration, including upgrades to the idle wheel (aluminum part made in Italy), and a unique OLED digital RPM indicator in place of the original strobe. The arm board is made of solid rosewood.

For the tonearm, we sourced a unique and killer looking 12 Woody model and finished it to match the arm board.

We then fitted one of our favorite cartridges made by Sumiko, their Low Output Starling, and topped it off with a Stillpoints record clamp and custom SkyFi cork mat.

To power the table and provide fine speed control, we connected a custom-made outboard power supply with laboratory grade vernier for fine adjustments, and button controlled 33/45 RPM selection.

This is a one of a kind SkyFi creation and will not be reproduced again.
