This fabulous MX110 received a light restoration here at SkyFi.
All of the electrolytic cans and axial caps underneath the chassis were replaced.
All coupling caps appear to be the vintage film types that remain stable with age. All the original Selenium rectifiers are still in place.
All functions fully tested here on our shop bench and working just like they should.
Both channels were balanced on both the Line and Phono inputs.
All of the original incandescent lamps were replaced with high-quality modern LED equivalents, and the Bright/Dim toggle function switch no longer affects the lamps.
The MPS/Stereo light may have been converted to LED prior to SkyFi. Hard to see if that ever changes.
The faceplate is nearly flawless, the glass is fully intact, and dial indicator lettering is perfect.
The chrome is also very good, with just slight spotting or surface irregularities.
Please see our photos or the manual linked below for full specifications.
And here's a walkthrough video from our YouTube channel from a previous MX110 listing
The SkyFi Testing Process for Preamplifiers:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and transistors are checked for signs of stress or damage. Special attention is paid to the power supply which is the most common source of failure for preamps. We then power up the unit and run a simple 1k sine wave while monitoring the low voltage output on an oscilloscope for signs of distortion or noise to get a baseline.
At this point we will lubricate and clean all switches and potentiometers (that are not sealed) with a high quality contact cleaner, and then re-test all functions for any signs of noise or scratching.
Final testing involves putting actual music through the preamplifier We have learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to a familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we are super familiar with which will quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some preamps will then move into the listening room where they will be tested with our in-house reference system.
The SkyFi Testing Process for Tuners:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and tubes are inspected for signs of stress overheating or cracking.
Then the tuner is thoroughly tested in our lab utilizing our professional Sencore SG80 FM Generator, which allows us to generate a reference FM signal of any frequency and amplitude, and then measure the resulting tuner output on our Sencore PR81 or oscilloscope.
