General:
This is the middle of the range 'table currently offered from McIntosh that's better than some higher-end models from other brands.
Incredibly hard to get these days due to production delays and super high demand.
In excellent condition, almost like-new, and working perfectly.
Unit will be fixed and calibrated with a new Sumiko Blue Point No. 3 MC (Moving-Coil) cartridge that's also one of our best sellers.
Your purchase includes the MT5 turntable, the power adapter, the official McIntosh double-box, and the original McIntosh acrylic dust cover which has a slight crack on one corner, a common failure point (See our photos).
Standout McIntosh Features Include:
• Tone Arm
The MT5 Tone Arm is made from Dural-Aluminum with special damping material. The Tone Arm is both light in weight and highly rigid. The noise free Vertical Bearings are made from two high precision ceramic surfaces. The Tone Arms lateral movement is performed by a high precision Horizontal Bearing. It also incorporates adjustable magnetic Anti-Skating.
• Turntable Platters
The full size Outer Platter is made from a special silicone acrylic material weights five pounds, one and one-half inch thick. This helps to resist external vibrations from reaching the record during playback and its large mass provides the perfect flywheel action for stable playback speed. The inner platter is precision machined Anodized Aluminum weights one and one-half pounds and is six and one quarter inches in diameter.
• Three Playback Speeds with fine Adjustments
The three playback speeds include 33 rpm, 45 rpm and 78 rpm. There is a separate trim adjustment allowing for accurate music reproduction for each of the three speeds.
• Magnetic Air Dampened Bearing
The MT5 Turntable Platter rotates on a ceramic bearing using magnetic suspension together with a cushion of air to provide vibration free rotation.
• Multi-Layered Dampened Chassis
The MT5 Turntable Chassis has a Stainless Steel base, with a thick Aluminum base plate and Acrylic top plate. The internal dampening material also helps to assure the only sound heard is from the record groove itself.

"The turntable of the gods." - Rolling Stone
The MT5 comes equipped with a high performance platter and motor drive assembly, and precision tone arm. The illuminated, magnetically suspended platter produces an inviting glow that's sure to be a conversation starter among friends and guests alike.
"A truly capable high-end turntable that stands up to any class rival." - What Hi Fi
The MT5 is factory adjusted for perfect playback. Tracking force, anti-skate force, cartridge overhang and arm height are all preset for maximum performance.
Advanced magnetic platter bearings and a precise belt drive motor spins records with absolute stability and quiet, assuring a pleasurable vinyl listening experience.
The custom tone arm and matching moving coil cartridge track records with minimum friction using magnetic antiskate and horizontal, tone-arm bearings.
While the construction of the MT5 is meticulous, the setup is simple. In a few easy steps, you’ll be ready to enjoy your favorite vinyl recordings.
"A turntable that turns the table on the traditional listening experience -- making the process of enjoying vinyl as smooth as its rich analog sound." - Gear Patrol
While maintaining complementary McIntosh styling, the MT5 takes full advantage of the chassis materials used to suppress noise, resonance and coloration so the only sound produced is that which is on your records.
A clear, form-fitting dust cover is included to protect the MT5's moving parts, along with your valued records.
The SkyFi Testing Process for Turntables:
First we try to identify any mechanical issues, particularly in the tonearm bearings. We check for freedom of movement or any resistance on both the horizontal and vertical range. There is a quick test for this which involves placing the table on its front edge and allowing the arm to swing freely like a pendulum. We then make any adjustments necessary to achieve minimal resistance and sometimes adjust the bearing pressure. On gimbal tonearms we inspect the cone tip with a magnifier.
We then asses the platter speed by using one of several methods, the most accuse is a playing a test tone on a test record and measuring the frequency out put with a frequency counter or oscilloscope. We also utilize test equipment to measure the wow and flutter to ensure its within spec. We do this for all speeds available for that particular model. Adjustments are then made to achieve proper speed which will vary depending on table drive design. Some require an adjustment of an internal or external potentiometer, some will require a pulley or motor adjustment. We also inspect the platter bearing to ensure its properly lubricated keeping in mind that some don't require lubrication at all.
We then inspect the power supply and address any issues with overworked capacitors particularly on Linn and later Thorens machines which tend to need attention.
On fully mechanical vintage tables like the Thorens TD124 and Garrard 301/401 we will go thought the entire mechanism, replace any worn parts and lubricate all components necessary to ensure smooth operation, speed change and low mechanical noise.
When fitting a new cartridge we will go through our detailed calibration process which can involve as many as 12 steps depending on the arm design. We perform this work on our custom turntable calibration rig which was developed in-house.
Some of these steps include:
Pivot to spindle adjustment
Tracing force
Anti-skate
Tonearm height
Lifter height
VTA
Azimuth
Stylus Distance and Overhang
We then do a critical listening test using our test records and our test system to ensure proper sonics.
