System of the Week Featuring Quad Electrostatic Speakers
Our System of the Week includes the legendary Quad ESL-57 Electrostatic Speakers, upgraded by Quads Unlimited in Longwood, Florida.
According to the Quad website, electrostatic technology goes back to the early 1900's and was initially used only for scientific research, later adapted in the 1920's for condenser microphones, then incorporated into loudspeaker design when Peter Walker (founder of Quad) created the original ESL.
Rounding out the rest of the system we have a Conrad-Johnson PV8 tube preamp and a Luxman MQ-3600 tube amplifier with the original Luxman tubes!
Vinyl is spinning through a restored Thorens TD-125 MKII 'table with a Sumiko Olympia cartridge.
