A Class Single Ended 10W+10W Power Amplifier
The legendary 300B power triode has long been the first choice of many serious music listeners because of the natural, emotional presentation of amplifiers using this power tube. The 300B tube works very well in traditional circuits and this is part of the reason why this ancient triode has become so famous worldwide. We appreciate the achievements of old-fashioned single- ended 300B amplifiers, but the dream of the full potential of 300B for musical reproduction has only come true with the creation of the EC-300B amplifier.

In the EC-300B, 300B tube is special adaptation of our proprietary IITC interstage transformer coupling circuit. Our design is carefully tailored to furnish ideal drive conditions for the output tube, opening the door to dramatic new levels of low-end articulation and dynamic excitement for single-ended 300B amplifiers. The ample 10 watt output of the EC-300B provides full-bodied musical reproduction that you will appreciate for a long, long time.

The result of our intensive research, the EC-300B, is a completely modern amplifier dedicated to the timeless quest for musical enjoyment.

Features:
-An Adaptation of IITC circuit concept featuring a unique configuration which cancels DC magnetization in the interstage transformer for outstanding bass performance and rich musical reproduction.

-All direct-coupled circuitry. We avoid coupling capacitors to ensure maximum purity of reproduction.

-The 300B heaters are supplied from a well filtered DC source to minimize hum and noise.

-The 10mm thick chassis is NC machined from solid aluminum and finished in a satiny champagne-gold finish.

-The specially-designed transformers used in WAVAC Audio Lab. amplifiers are custom-wound to the highest standards by TANGO, the most renowned transformer manufacturer in Japan.

-All tube sockets are machined out of solid Teflon, fitted with gold plated phosphor bronze contacts and mounted on elastomeric vibration insulators.

-Gold-plated speaker jacks which will accommodate heavy audiophile speaker cables are mounted on the top of the amplifier for easy access.

-Reduction of noise caused by electric power supply is realized by a power line input filter.

-A perforated aluminum bottom plate provides effective cooling for long component life.

-An attractive laboratory glass canopy suspended on elastomer supports is provided the output tubes.

-The input tube is a triode-wired Western Electric 435A, a superb small-signal device designed to meet the highest standards of performance and reliability in vital telecommunication applications.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Tube Amplifiers:

We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and tubes are inspected for signs of stress overheating or cracking.

We then power up the unit carefully and run a simple 1k sine wave while monitoring the output on an oscilloscope for signs of distortion or noise. Finally we run the amplifier to its full rated power into the appropriate resistive load provided by our Sencore amplifier tester. If there is an issue, it will usually be noticeable at this point. If it all looks clean we will often test for THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) measured by our Keithley distortion meter, and compare it against the original manufacturers specifications. The amplifier the remains powered on to "burn in" on our test bench for a few hours to make sure there are no heat related issues. If there are balanced inputs available they will also be tested.

We also test all tubes for output gain and leakage on our calibrated B&K 747 tester against the original manufacturers specifications. If needed, the tubes will be replaced from our vast NOS (New Old Stock) vintage or modern inventory.

Final testing involves pushing actual music thorough the amplifier. We've learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we're very familiar with which quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some amplifiers will then move into our listening room where they are tested with our in-house reference speakers of choice.
