Perfect for connecting a DCS or Esoteric DAC, or other high speed digital device that requires a Firewire connection.
At one point Firewire was positioned to be the leading method to connect digital audio gear (Sony, Apple), and is not something you come across much these days.
The original Apple iPod only offered Firewire connectivity, and only when Apple offered a "PC" version was USB connectivity offered as an option.
