Niles made these excellent speakers for only a brief period of time.

I used them as my surround back channels for a decade or so without ever finding a reason to replace them.

They are very capable and quite sophisticated with no less than 7 drivers per speaker, giving you the ultimate in surround/movie coverage.

They are both working perfectly and look like they have been well cared for.

I can't think of a single speaker that could outperform these at this price.

• RECOMMENDED AMPLIFIER POWER
For satisfactory performance, we recommend using a surround amplifier with
a power rating of 20-150 watts for the Pro770FX. We recommend an amplifier power rating of to 20-200 watts for the Pro870FX. Most loudspeakers are not damaged by large amplifiers, but rather by small amplifiers. If your system is playing loud music, a small amplifier will run out of power very quickly and can create damaging “clipping” distortions. A more powerful amplifier will play at the same volume without distorting.

Wiring Requirements
We recommend using 16-gauge loudspeaker wire for runs up to 80 feet and 14-gauge speaker wire for runs up to 200 feet. The connectors will accommodate 12 to 22 gauge wire.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Speakers:

Our speaker evaluation process starts with a visual inspection of all drivers. We are looking for damaged or deteriorating woofer surrounds, dented tweeter domes, and cone damage. We also inspect the speaker connection points for loose or broken connectors.

After the initial visual inspection we connect the speakers to a reference amplifier with our preferred test tracks. With the speakers placed with proper distance we listen to each driver to make sure that they are producing the intended frequencies with no signs of distortion or rattle. During listening tests with test tracks we check for proper stereo imaging and bass response at various listening levels. If there are any audible signs of issues, the speakers are taken to the bench where we perform a frequency sweep to isolate the issue so that it can be resolved by component repair or replacement.
