General:
Modern high quality CD players are becoming increasingly difficult to source, especially at affordable prices.

This player came to us from a good client that was putting together a system that never came to fruition. It's new, unused, in an open NAD original box. We tested it in our lab to make sure it was working perfectly. Comes complete to you as it left the factory.

More from NAD:
The C 546BEE lives up to its predecessor’s reputation, the C 545BEE, by delivering a performance that is both refined and riveting. Supporting a wide range of program material such as CD, CD-R and CD-RW, the C 546BEE will seamlessly play discs that are encoded in both MP3 and WMA. Designed to deliver a fluid listening experience, features such as being able to repeat a track, skip a track or select tracks at random, will make music listening that much more enjoyable. Thanks to a CD-9 remote control, you are given full command over your CD collection with the option to program up to 20 tracks. So dig out those albums of yours that you know and love, and let your favourite songs ring out.

A classic gets even better
Just when you thought CD sound couldn't get any better, NAD pushes the sonic boundaries again. They took the excitement and toe-tapping performance of their much-loved C 545BEE player and raised the bar even further to create the C 546BEE. This new CD player sports a freshened, more refined look than its predecessor. But even more importantly, its new circuit layout and updated components, including metal film resistors and polypropylene capacitors in key areas, help squeeze even more goodness from your CD library. You'll experience even greater bass extension and slam, while enjoying enhanced image depth and scale. NAD even gave it a front-panel USB port so you can play MP3s from a portable thumb drive through your home audio system with ease.

A versatile performer
You'll enjoy playback from a variety of discs, ranging from regular CDs to home-burned CD-Rs filled with MP3 and WMA files. If your CD library includes albums with CD Text, the C 545BEE can show information such as song titles directly on its front-panel display. The full-function remote gives you command of the basics like "play" and "stop," plus access to repeat, random, and program modes from the comfort of your favorite chair.

The SkyFi Testing Process for CD Players:

We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure that there are no signs of heat stress or damage. Capacitors are checked for telltale signs of predictive failure including bulging, shrunken wrappers, or physical leakage. We also inspect resistors and other passive components for signs of overheating. When the unit is first powered on we check the drawer mechanism function.

After the visual inspection we connect the CD Player’s RCA outputs to our Sencore PA81 Power Analyzer which simulates a real world input impedance and allows us to monitor the output on an oscilloscope. We start with a test CD with precision test signals to verify proper output on both channels. If the CD player has balanced outputs these are also tested at this time. If this check passes, we move onto evaluation with actual music CDs. We listen for clicks, skips, and drops during playback.

At this time we also check the transport functions including skip, ff, rw, play, pause, repeat, and programming if applicable. If the unit has a remote control, all remote control functions are verified.

If the CD player is capable of SACD playback we test its ability to read SACD layers on multiple discs including standard and hybrid SACDs. At this time we also check the unit’s digital outputs were applicable. If SACD layers are being properly read we should see the digital outputs mute during playback. On redbook CD playback we verify that each digital output maintains proper lock on our bench DAC.

After bench testing is completed, CD players are set up for testing on our long term test rig.

During extended testing we make sure that unit can play through several different discs from beginning to end with no skips or lock ups.
