General:
The Simaudio Moon 610LP is a formidable phono preamplifier that's built like a tank and then some. This is a current model that's still in production.

It features a whopping 64 impedance loading settings to perfectly match with your phono cartridge. In addition it offers two equalization settings for RIAA and IEC. Not many phono preamps have any of these features, let alone both. It also features balanced XLR connections.

Plus it also comes with an upgraded Moon 820S power supply for super high-quality and stable power delivery. The 820S power supply can power up to two compatible Moon Audio components.

MSRP for both pieces is $8500 each.

Included along with both units will be extra power output cables, staking bridges, boxes, and manuals.

SkyFi Cosmetic Notes:
Looks new, no signs significant signs of wear.

SkyFi Technical Notes:
We have preset the bottom panel DIP switches for a typical MC cartridge. 0pF capacitance, 100 Ohm loading, and 66 dB gain. Please reach out if you'd like us to optimize the settings for your specific cartridge before shipping.

820S Power Supply Design Features and Specs:
• Two custom proprietary toroidal transformers with lower magnetic, electrical and thermal loss, for an improved power transfer and a lower regulation factor. The result is increased current speed and better dynamics; one each for analog and digital power supplies.

• The analog and digital power supplies each have 2 special “pi-type” filters after the initial voltage rectification stage that reduce AC transmission noise, using 40,000uF of capacitance (4 x 10,000 uF) and dual choke inductance (2x 20mH).

• The analog and digital supplies each have 4 stages of our proprietary M-R2S circuit; A fully discrete voltage regulation circuit using a “precision reference” feeding an amplifier made up of numerous IC’s and transistors as opposed to a single voltage regulation chip. M-R2S outputs pure DC power that is exceptionally fast, very precise, has a virtually unmeasurable noise level, as well as absolute stable voltage.

• 4-Layer printed circuit boards with pure copper tracings and extremely low impedance characteristics yielding much shorter signal paths and drastically reduced noise levels.

Testing Process:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure that there are no signs of heat stress or damage. Capacitors are checked for telltale signs of predictive failure including bulging, shrunken wrappers, or physical leakage. We also inspect the PCBs for discoloration from resistors or transistors that may have been running hot. On vintage units we often spot check select capacitors for value and ESR.

When we first power on a preamplifier we connect its RCA output to a Sencore PA81 Power Analyzer which simulates real world loading conditions and gives us an oscilloscope interface.

The first order of business is checking that the volume control works smoothly throughout its entire range with acceptable channel balance. This is accomplished by feeding a 1 KHz sine wave into one of the preamp’s line level inputs while monitoring the preamp’s output on an oscilloscope.

We then switch to a 1 KHz square wave to test the tone controls, loudness function, and filters where applicable. During this step we are watching for equal alteration of the test signal by both channels. This also helps us identify dirty controls that will need treatment.

Once the basic line stage functions are verified, we test each input individually. This is especially important for devices that use relays to select their sources. If the preamp is equipped with a phono stage we test that as well. We use an inverse RIAA filter which allows us to feed a reference test signal into the phono input with the proper RIAA equalization and level. A square wave or sine sweep is used to verify that the device’s phono stage is faithfully reproducing the RIAA curve. If the preamp under test has balanced inputs and/or outputs these are tested as well.

We finish up our bench testing with a listening test with our bench amplifier and reference speakers. During this test we check for hum or hiss that may not have shown up in earlier testing. We also check that all of the tone controls and filters perform as expected.

If the preamplifier has remote control functions these are also tested. Preamps with tube circuits or complicated power supply topologies are connected at our long term test rig for extended stress testing under real world conditions.
