This is one of the most sought after vintage preamps from McIntosh.
The MX110 excels at both being a great preamp and a tuner, while maintaining classic McIntosh looks.
The tuner works wonderfully and brings in stations from afar while maintaining a low noise floor. The stereo function works as it should and easily decodes stereo signals. It also features the very cool tube signal strength meter instead of the typical meter with a needle.
The preamp also works great, with phono provisions for two turntables and bass/treble controls for left and right channels independently. The loudness function is great for listening at low levels which induces a fuller warmer sound. The balance control, which tends to be problematic on these units, has been bypassed to ensured reliable operation.
The unit works as it should and has been carefully tested, both on the test bench and in the listening room. Every component has been checked and replaced where needed.
All capacitors were checked for value and leakage, and all tubes were tested in our calibrated B&K 747 tester.
Cosmetically it is gorgeous and the soft gold metal finish makes the unit look really special, much like a limited series release.
The glass is absolutely perfect and the bulbs are bright and clear. The chrome work has slight pitting in some areas but it cleaned up superbly and has a good shine to it. The front faceplate is free from scratches or dents but the writing is worn in a few locations from use.
Here is your chance to own a piece of audio classic history.
