This is a very slick and simple to use media streamer / CD ripper (FLAC) / network music storage server. It features a Samsung 2 TB (Terabyte = 1,000 Gigabytes GB) solid state drive with "3D V-NAND technology" for the ultimate in reliability and performance. Plus near-zero noise.
This will also come to you loaded with over 540GB of music!
That equals a total of 743 Artists, 1571 Albums, and 20,306 individual tracks. We did the math and if you were to play this 24/7 you'd go over 6 years without hearing the same song twice.
It originally retailed several years ago for $7500 for the upgraded 2TB solid state storage option.
Genres include classic rock, singer songwriters, classical, Jazz, pop, International and more. Literally something for everyone.
Plus it's controllable by the amazing and best out there solution by Roon labs, plus other built-in no-cost solutions using your wired or Wi-Fi network like Plex.
We highly recommend Roon for the best experience. Simply load the Roon app on your PC/Mac/iOS device for control and playback of the thousands of tracks with ease. Playback is via the digital output to your DAC/stereo system, or to your connected devices selectable in Roon.
The Antipodes DX also features a slot loading front mounted CD drive to convert your CD to FLAC (Compressed or Uncompressed your choice). Ripping occurs automatically once a disc is loaded.
You can also load tracks from other computers/NAS/storage devices on your network to the Antipodes. It's a straightforward drag and drop affair on your local network to the Antipodes internal storage, and then Roon automatically scans for updates to your library accordingly.
Additional details from a Stereophile review written by John Atkinson:
Antipodes Audio, a New Zealand-based company that's new both to me and to the US, makes a range of music players; the DX Reference, their top model, costs $6500 with 1TB internal solid-state storage, or $7500 with 2TB.
There are no peripherals: just a slot-loading DVD/CD drive to rips discs, and an RJ45 Ethernet port to permit control via another computer on the network, or via WiFi using an iOS or Android device.
The Antipodes server supports a wide range of audio-file formats: WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC, AAC, M4A, MP3, Ogg, DSF, and DFF. PCM-format resolution can be up to 32 bits, with sample rates up to 384kHz. DSD64 and DSD128 files can be played.
