Super cool linear tracking turntable from Akai. Automatic functionality too which so many of you have asked for recently.

This is the first one to come through the shop which quickly impressed us by its fully automatic operation.

Automatic meaning this AP-L45 has the ability play and repeat records with a push of a button. It also actually has fast forward and rewind control of the tonearm, which is perfect for someone with an unsteady hand and means you're less likely to damage the delicate stylus or cartridge over time.

We serviced this example and repaired the single issue that plagues this model which is a stuck tonearm lift mechanism. There is a rod that corrodes over a very long time from the use of dissimilar metals. It's now good to go for another 30 years. The electronics are super well made so they should be reliable also.

We also fitted and SkyFi calibrated (12-step process) a brand new Sumiko Amethyst Moving Magnet cartridge ($599) which works super well on this table. All Sumiko cartridges are handmade in Japan and hard to come by these days with ongoing supply chain issues and delays.

This 'table is working perfectly but has some signs of use. The top cover and sides in particular shows some scratches and wear.
