General:
The 2M blue is the sweet spot in the Ortofon moving-magnet (MM) phono cartridge range.

Praised for its high-quality detail, great sound, and affordability, it makes a great cartridge for just about any turntable.

This particular Ortofon 2M blue looks barely used under our dedicated shop microscope.

From Ortofon:
The goal for any cartridge should be to reproduce the sound as close to the artist's vision as possible, and the 2M blue takes you further on this journey of authenticity. With the 2M Blue, you get serious about listening to vinyl.

Accuracy Level
The goal for any cartridge should be to reproduce the sound as close to the artist's vision as possible, and the 2M Blue takes you further on this journey of authenticity. With the 2M Blue, you get serious about listening to vinyl.

Stylus
The Nude diamond is cut in an Elliptical shape, and when it hits the groove, it is like travelling through both space and time to the very moment the music was recorded.

Compatibility
Created to facilitate simple installation of the cartridge and to ensure compatibility with the dimensions and weights of today's most popular turntables, the 2M Series offers four distinct product versions:

The 2M is for most common turntables on the market, the 2M Premounted for customers who wish direct and easy mounting and replacement on their S-shaped tonearm, the 2M Verso for bottom mount headshells, and the 2MR, which is designed with cartridge housing tailored for turntables and tonearms like Rega, matching their requirement for low-form factor cartridges.

Features
The 2M Blue features Ortofon’s very own invention and trademark: split pole pins. An invention that enables moving magnet cartridges to have a flat frequency response as with a moving coil cartridge.

In this video, you will learn about four cartridge technologies, including the split pole pin technology. Leif Johannsen, Ortofon's Chief Officer of Acoustics and Research, explains how the technology works by reducing the loss of energy and hereby the loss of the musical signal.

Output
The engine provides an increased output of 5.5 mV optimized sound reproduction and a high level of sonic accuracy. The 2M Blue adds more dynamics and resolution, sounds more open, and reproduces more details compared to the 2M Red model.

Testing Process:
We start by doing a detailed physical inspection under light magnification to asses the cantilever condition, its position in the cartridge body, and the condition of the suspension.

We also inspect any coil wires and the output connections to make sure it hasn't been strained. We then perform a light cleaning with specialized agents and very carefully blow dry with compressed air.

Following that, we conduct a thorough examination using our Wild Heerbrugg professional microscope. From there we can asses the wear and quality of the stylus and determine how much use it has seen, and if there are any mechanical issues. We can also identify if it needs further cleaning or care.

We then move the cartridge to a digital microscope where we take photos of the cantilever and stylus for future reference.

Next we move to the test bench where we can check for continuity of each channel and resistance.

On certain cartridges (or if the technician feels necessary) we install the cartridge on a turntable and run several test records to ascertain tacking ability, distortion, and compliance.
