General:

Custom creation based on the venerable Technics SP-10MKII Direct Drive System.

Plinth comes from OMA and is slate affair which much weigh in at over 200lbs. Slate is a great material fora turntable base as its easy to shape, care for, and maybe most importantly super inert. Has facilities for dual tonearms.

The tonearm is a Schroeder Reference which is machined and hand built by Mr Schroeder himself. It's thought to be one of the best tonearms in the world and has an effective length of 10".

No phono cartridge is included, so you can supply your own or we'd be happy to install and calibrate anything from our inventory (mostly Sumiko).

The speed controller is made by OMA and has facilities for 33, 45, and 78 RPM.

Drive is a Technics SP-10 of the MKII variation with a Krebs motor upgrade.

The external power supply was custom built and sits underneath the motor drive.

The system is in perfect working condition. Cosmetically it's pretty clean but the plinth does have some light scratches or slight dings as the slate is fairly fragile. It presents and looks really good though.

Fully tested in our lab where it performed admirably and kept speed precisely during all our testing.

This item will ship safely packed, strapped, and secured to a freight pallet for worldwide freight shipping. You can checkout on our site if you're within the USA lower 48 States, otherwise please contact us for a freight quote.

ABOUT THE SCHROEDER TONEARM
Frank Schroeder makes each and every exquisite tonearm by hand, so whilst it might be a long wait time, it is certainly worth it, and several audio fanatics have placed this particular piece of kit at the very top of their wish list.
Fortunately for vinyl lovers and turntable enthusiasts, we stock Frank’s Reference SQ Model (World-Class & Highly-Reputed), alongside a few other specialist models/products of his.

Many Analog Audio fans in Indonesia, as well as across the globe, have remarked on how truly fantastic this piece of equipment really is, and it could likely be the last tonearm you’ll ever buy – It really is that perfect!

As captured within the tonearm, Frank Schroeder Tonearms has created an entirely new, and rather radical technique that works hard to decrease any possible friction within its captured bearings. The result of this is a level of friction that is minimized to the very lowest level possible. With the wand itself being comprised of multi-layered carbon fibre; there is currently no other tonearm quite like it to be found anywhere else in the world!

Throughout the design is an incorporated constrained layer that influences dampening, with the use of material transitions that tune as well as separate sources (isolating any mechanical movement).

The final result of these features means that the likelihood of producing a sonic fingerprint to your system (via the wand) is almost impossible – No wonder there is such a long waiting list!

Testing Process:

First we try to identify any mechanical issues, particularly in the tonearm bearings.  We check for freedom of movement or any resistance on both the horizontal and vertical range.  There is a quick test for this which involves placing the table on its front edge and allowing the arm to swing freely like a pendulum.  We then make any adjustments necessary to achieve minimal resistance and sometimes adjust the bearing pressure.  On gimbal tonearms we inspect the cone tip with a magnifier.

We then asses the platter speed by using one of several methods, the most accuse is a playing a test tone on a test record and measuring the frequency out put with a frequency counter or oscilloscope.  We also utilize test equipment to measure the wow and flutter to ensure its within spec.  We do this for all speeds available for that particular model.  Adjustments are then made to achieve proper speed which will vary depending on table drive design.  Some require an adjustment of an internal or external potentiometer, some will require a pulley or motor adjustment.  We also inspect the platter bearing to ensure its properly lubricated keeping in mind that some don't require lubrication at all.

We then inspect the power supply and address any issues with overworked capacitors particularly on Linn and later Thorens machines which tend to need attention.

On fully mechanical vintage tables like the Thorens TD124 and Garrard 301/401 we will go thought the entire mechanism, replace any worn parts and lubricate all components necessary to ensure smooth operation, speed change and low mechanical noise.

When fitting a new cartridge we will go through our detailed calibration process which can involve as many as 12 steps depending on the arm design.  We perform this work on our custom turntable calibration rig which was developed in-house.

Some of these steps include:

Pivot to spindle adjustment

Tracing force

Anti-skate

Tonearm height

Lifter height

VTA

Azimuth

Stylus Distance and Overhang

We then do a critical listening test using our test records and our test system to ensure proper sonics.
