General:

Very capable full range (and I mean FULL RANGE) speakers from McIntosh made right here in the good old USA. Capable of blowing out the windows AND providing a detailed nuanced sound.

Tested and working properly and to spec. Cosmetically very very clean with little signs of use.

Included with your purchase are the two speakers as pictured, two new official McIntosh Shipping Cartons (for future use - we will not ship these), and a new complete set of floor spikes and furniture glide feet.

Cosmetic Notes:
One speaker was reassembled at the McIntosh factory in a fresh new cabinet due to some cosmetic damage from the previous owner. We also replaced the glass lit faceplates with new unit so they match perfectly and light up with the same intensity.  Yes you can connect the 12V trigger from an amp or preamp and light up the McIntosh logos.  Super cool!

McIntosh Performance Features Include:
• Woofers with Patented LD/HP® Technology
The McIntosh Low Frequency Loudspeaker Elements feature the patented LD/HP Magnetic Circuit Design. This design, when compared to conventional Loud- speaker Drivers, reduces distortion significantly. It also increases power handling and efficiency.
The rear vent through the magnetic assembly offers improved heat dissipation. The die cast basket has an open air area under the voice coil/spider assembly to prevent displacement noise. The polypropylene cone with a rubber surround has a four layer copper voice coil and is rigid to perform as a near perfect air piston.
All together these advances in woofer design construction and materials produce the very important first several octaves of music, with a high degree of accuracy and superb transient response. This performance level rivals woofers twice the size of the XR100 woofer.

• Neodymium-Iron-Boron Alloy Magnets
The 10 two inch Midrange Drivers and the three-quarter inch Dome Super Tweeter all use this Alloy. The Neodymium-Iron-Boron Alloy has the highest flux density per unit of volume. This allows for a smaller physical size driver and thus closer driver to driver placement for improved dispersion.

• Dual Midrange Crossover Points
There are several benefits when using multiple Mid- range drivers. First, there is a substantial increase
in power handling capacity far greater than a single larger diameter midrange driver.
Second, due to mutual acoustic coupling there is an increase in output volume while at the same time a reduction in audible distortion. Eight of the 10 Midrange Drivers reproduce the lower two octaves of midrange
frequencies. The remaining two Midrange Drivers reproduce the upper two octaves of midrange frequencies and are located directly adjacent to the tweeter. This maintains wide dispersion with a stable sound image throughout the upper midrange frequencies.

• Loudspeaker Protection
The XR100’s built-in speaker protection incorporates four automatic resetting solid-state devices in the crossover network. One protects the tweeters, one each for the low and upper midrange drivers and one for the woofers.

The magnetically attached grille is acoustically transparent and covered with neutral black cloth.

Our patented Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts easily but securely attach the speaker cables to prevent them from coming loose and possibly causing a short; the binding posts are gold-plated to prevent corrosion and ensure a quality signal is delivered to your speakers.

Unique front panel McIntosh logo may be illuminated when configured with a McIntosh system.

Amplifiers from 75 to 600 Watts are appropriate power for XR100 speakers.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Speakers:

Our speaker evaluation process starts with a visual inspection of all drivers. We are looking for damaged or deteriorating woofer surrounds, dented tweeter domes, and cone damage. We also inspect the speaker connection points for loose or broken connectors.

After the initial visual inspection we connect the speakers to a reference amplifier with our preferred test tracks. With the speakers placed with proper distance we listen to each driver to make sure that they are producing the intended frequencies with no signs of distortion or rattle. During listening tests with test tracks we check for proper stereo imaging and bass response at various listening levels. If there are any audible signs of issues, the speakers are taken to the bench where we perform a frequency sweep to isolate the issue so that it can be resolved by component repair or replacement.
