Introduction

The LK100 uses the highest quality components and the latest surface mount technology in order to achieve an excellent sound in your home.

The eight speaker sockets of the LK100 facilitate bi or tri wiring. It is ideally suited for use with the Linn Kairn preamplifier, and makes the performance of active systems accessible to more customers than ever before. The input/output facilities also enable the LK100 to work in multi-room hi-fi systems.

As with any amplifier, the LK100 will perform at its best when used with the highest quality source. The better the sound from your turntable, tuner or CD player, the better the sound you will hear from the other components in the system.

LK100 POWER AMPLIFIER

The Linn LK100 Power Amplifier is a flexible power amplifier with performance and power to drive virtually any loudspeaker. It can be used with the Linn Kairn in a main system and is ideal for use in distributed sound systems.

Multiple outputs allow easy bi- and tri- wiring, and the affordability of the LK100 makes bi- and tri- amplification of loudspeakers more accessible.

The LK100 has over current and over temperature protection, an efficient internal heatsink, and is stable into any load. Additionally surface-mounted transistors on the circuit board provide efficient heat dissipation.

With output power of 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms, or 90 watts per channel into 4 ohms, the LK100 has the ability to drive the most demanding loudspeakers. Its elegant looks make it ideal for stacking in multi-amplifier and active systems.

Good looks combined with affordability make the LK100 a highly desirable amplifier, and its high performance gives it a wide range of applications, including driving Linn Kabers, or the active Keltik loudspeaker system.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Solid State Amplifiers:

We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and transistors are checked for signs of stress or damage.

We then power up the unit carefully and run a simple 1k sine wave while monitoring the output on an oscilloscope for signs of distortion or noise. Finally, we run the amplifier to its full rated power into the appropriate resistive load provided by our Sencore amplifier tester. If there is an issue, it will usually be noticeable at this point. If everything reads clean, we will often test for THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) measured by our Keithley distortion meter, and compare it against the original manufacturers specifications. The amplifier then remains powered on to "burn in" on our test bench for a few hours to make sure there are no heat related issues. If there are balanced inputs available they will be also be tested.

Final testing involves pushing actual music thorough the amplifier. We've learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we're very familiar with which quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some amplifiers will then move into our listening room where they are tested with our in-house reference speakers of choice.
