This is a unique, rare, and beautiful line stage preamp from renowned french maker Jadis.

This piece was purchased in the late 1990's and then promptly put aside for a reference system a client of ours was assembling. The system never came to fruition, and it has therefore sat in climate controlled storage since new.

We very carefully tested both pieces to make sure they are working perfectly for their new owner - which they are beautifully.

$14,000 MSRP back in 1998. In today's dollars that equals $22,000.

From the Jadis Original Sales Brochure:
Available in balanced (JPS2S) or unbalanced (JPS2) version.

The Jadis JPS2 is a line preamplifier which uses 3 ECC83 for the line function plus a ECC82 tube to adapt the impedance on the CD entry. Its specific power supply recreates a voltage for the module with a 80 Hz frequency in order to avoid problems that can occur due to the 50 or 60 Hz frequency from the mains supply.

The high voltage is regulated by two tubes: 1 x EF86 and 1 x EL84.

Golden connector and further connections are in copper and silver which assure the faithful broadcast of the audio signal.

The "point-to-point" wiring gives to the sound stage plenty of aeration and dimension.

The choice of the electronic components and the extremely careful fabrication method gives the signature JADIS to this device.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Tube Preamplifiers at SkyFi:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and transistors are checked for signs of stress or damage. Special attention is paid to the power supply which is the most common source of failure for preamps. We then power up the unit and run a simple 1k sine wave while monitoring the low voltage output on an oscilloscope for signs of distortion or noise to get a baseline.

We also test all tubes for output gain and leakage on our calibrated modern and professional tube tester against the original manufacturers specifications.  If needed, the tubes will be replaced from our vast NOS  (New Old Stock) vintage or modern inventory.

At this point we will lubricate and clean all switches and potentiometers (that are not sealed) with a high quality contact cleaner, and then re-test all functions for any signs of noise or scratching.

Final testing involves putting actual music through the preamplifier We have learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to a familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage Kef speakers that we are super familiar with which will quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some preamps will then move into the listening room where they will be tested with our in-house reference system.
