Custom Garrard 401 Turntable with SME Arm, Sumiko Cartridge, and New Plinth

Most of our custom turntables have up to a 3 month lead time, but this creation is completed and ready to ship. I originally built this table for myself, but can't seem to find the time to enjoy it. So I'm making it available as of today.

I started with a vintage Garrard 401 drive that was totally refurbished by Grail Audio from the UK. It has a black powder coat and like-new internals, making the drive look and operate like it was just made from the factory.

I then had a gorgeous plinth made from walnut with chrome accents, also from the UK. It features an aluminum tonearm mount specifically made for SME arms.

I then fitted a standard removable IEC power socket in order to chose your own high-quality power cable.

In order for this 'table to work properly in the USA I machined a 60Hz motor pulley. Then I fitted an electronic LED strobe unit which makes the platter speed dot markings very visible.

For the arm I chose the best we had in all of our stock, the SME Series V, which is incredibly sophisticated yet easy to adjust and dial in.

For the cartridge I also chose from our top shelf with a Sumiko Pearwood Celebration II MC (Moving-Coil) example, brand new and perfectly calibrated.

Lastly a carbon fibre record mat finishes it off with a modern touch.

Sad to see it leave the shop, but it truly needs to be enjoyed by an audiophile and not just kept sitting pretty on display in our front window anymore.
