If you follow us on YouTube or online you might have noticed we're huge fans of JBL studio monitors. We've specialized in the reconditioning and sale of many 4343's over the last 5 years. Several of them have found their way to cool speakeasy or vinyl bars and restaurants all over the world.

When we were offered the chance to acquire this bigger brother to the 4343 we didn't hesitate, especially once we saw the condition and how well they were cared for.

Most JBL studio monitors arrive at our shop in need of much needed TLC - but not these. The wood finish is superb for the age with very little to no discoloration, no chipping or scratches of any kind, and the drivers were almost perfect.

We did send out the midrange drivers to our good friends at Millersound to get them looking as good as the rest of the drivers. He skillfully replaced the surrounds for another 40 years of great performance.

The main woofers were redone by Audio Classics in 2019 and are ready to play for decades to come.

Best of all the previous owner had these incredibly well-made plinths for the bottom of the speaker which house casters, allowing these super heavy behemoths to be easily moved around. These plinths are made of solid wood and are color matched to the rest of the speakers.

The 4345's share the look and driver layout of the 4343 but have a much larger woofer 18" versus 15", and a much bigger cabinet volume to accommodate the woofer. The result is more and deeper bass.

Amplifier-wise, these will present an easy load to drive with a very high efficiency of 96 db. You could power them with as little as 40W (preferably tubes) or a solid state amp up to 200W. You can also divide the internal crossover and power them with two channels of amplification per speaker for even greater performance.

The grills are also in super shape and the fabric was replaced with a nice color match to the vintage style of these monitors. Not sure why someone would ever want to put them on considering how cool the blue painted baffles and drivers look together.

Bottom line, you're not likely to find a cleaner set of 4345s. If you want something slightly smaller do look at our current 4343 listings.

These will ship via freight securely packaged and strapped to a shipping pallet within the lower 48 US States for a flat $1,100. We also ship worldwide so contact us if you're outside of this area and would like a quote. Local courier services also available.

Testing Process:

Our speaker evaluation process starts with a visual inspection of all drivers. We are looking for damaged or deteriorating woofer surrounds, dented tweeter domes, and cone damage. We also inspect the speaker connection points for loose or broken connectors.

After the initial visual inspection we connect the speakers to a reference amplifier with our preferred test tracks. With the speakers placed with proper distance we listen to each driver to make sure that they are producing the intended frequencies with no signs of distortion or rattle. During listening tests with test tracks we check for proper stereo imaging and bass response at various listening levels. If there are any audible signs of issues, the speakers are taken to the bench where we perform a frequency sweep to isolate the issue so that it can be resolved by component repair or replacement.

Our subwoofer evaluation process starts with a visual inspection of all drivers. We are looking for damaged or deteriorating woofer surrounds, cone damage, or rubbing voice coils. We also inspect the input connections for damage.

After the initial visual inspection, we connect the sub at our bench and perform a sine wave sweep from about 200Hz down to around 10Hz. During this sweep we are listening for excessive rattle or other signs of improper function. If the sweep passes, we then increase the input level to evaluate how the woofer performs at high output levels. If the woofer has built in crossover features or multiple connection options these features are tested at this time.

We complete the subwoofer evaluation by feeding the unit with an audio signal in conjunction with our house music system to see how it responds to low frequency content in real world conditions while paired with a full range system.
