Original Acoustic Research speaker stands rarely come up for sale, this is the first pair we've had the opportunity to acquire.

This particular pair of speaker stands are original Acoustic Research models, designed for the AR-3 and AR-3a, but they also fit many other speakers of similar size. They will accommodate most of the larger Acoustic Research models, including the AR-3a, AR-2a, AR-2ax, AR-5, AR-10Pi, AR-11, AR-12, and others.

Putting your classic 1960s and 1970s loudspeakers on stands is one of the best ways to improve both sound quality and listening position by bringing the tweeters closer to ear level.

The stands feature a distinctive cross-shaped design and are constructed from solid walnut, giving them a premium look and finish that complements vintage speakers beautifully. Another thoughtful feature is their collapsible design—they slide apart easily for convenient storage when not in use.

Just as everything we sell they will be packed with care so they arrive safely at your home.

SkyFi Cosmetic Notes:
These appear to be the 3rd version of these stands. Solid walnut with mortise and tenon joinery. All pieces have been treated with Howard's products. Light marks and blemishes are present on all surfaces. Overall these have a nice vintage patina.

Brand Background:
Acoustic Research, Inc. (“AR”) was founded in 1954 by audio pioneer, writer, inventor, researcher and audio-electronics teacher Edgar Villchur and his student, Henry Kloss. AR was established to produce the US $185 (equivalent to $1,990 in 2022) model AR-1, a loudspeaker design incorporating the acoustic suspension principle based on U.S. Patent 2,775,309, granted to Edgar Villchur and assigned to Acoustic Research in 1956.

Edgar Villchur's technical innovation was based on objective testing and research, most of which was made publicly available as documents, specifications, and measurements—all of which were then new in the loudspeaker industry.
