Being that this piece was in all original condition, we opted for a basic alignment to restore tuner functions to proper spec instead of doing a deep dive on component replacement.

This means that the tuner is fundamentally working with good FM reception, stereo separation, and dial tracking - but may not perform at its absolute peak best. Still amazing to be clear.

So if this tuner is to be used in a super critical listening environment, we'd encourage you to pursue additional service or restoration by a tuner specialist.

We tested all of the tubes and replaced one week 6CS6 tube. Both magic eye indicators and meters were tested and are functioning correctly.

The fixed output has a nice dual concentric level control which allowed us to perfect the balance for the L/R output signals when using the fixed output. When testing using an oscilloscope the variable output is a tad bit uneven but still *very good* for age.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Tuners:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and tubes are inspected for signs of stress overheating or cracking.

Then the tuner is thoroughly tested in our lab utilizing our professional Sencore SG80 FM Generator, which allows us to generate a reference FM signal of any frequency and amplitude, and then measure the resulting tuner output on our Sencore PR81 or oscilloscope. 

This MR71 passed with flying colors and produced a natural and warm sounding output.
