This MR500 tuner is likely the cleanest example we've ever seen, both inside and out. I know more than most thanks to my 1980's complete and width-matching McIntosh setup that also features this beauty.

The included wood cabinet even has the original McIntosh "Walnut" sticker fully intact.

This was part of a three-piece system that came from the same home and single audiophile owner, including the C506 Preamp and MC502 Amplifier.

This owner took meticulous care of his equipment and saved every bit of paperwork too. AND we even have a super rare bush-button wired remote control that allows you to scan stations from your favorite listing position.

This example is also in perfect working condition after testing in our shop using our professional Sencore SG80 FM Generator.

We even changed out the old rechargeable batteries with fresh replacements to ensure the station presets will work for years to come.

• Station resets were not storing their saved stations. Original rechargeable batteries no longer holding a charge. We installed a modern fresh set of correct-type rechargeable batteries, had the system charge overnight, tested again, presets working normally.

The SkyFi Testing Process for Tuners:
We start with a visual inspection of all internal components to make sure there are no signs of stress or aging. Capacitors are checked for telltale sings of bulging or leaking, resistors are checked for signs of overheating or cracking, and transistors are checked for signs of stress or damage.

Then the tuner is thoroughly tested in our lab utilizing our professional Sencore SG80 FM Generator, which allows us to generate a reference FM signal of any frequency and amplitude, and then measure the resulting tuner output on our Sencore PR81 or oscilloscope.

Final testing involves pushing actual music from the tuner. We've learned over time that some issues are only noticeable to a trained ear while listening to familiar source material. Our test bench has reference vintage KEF speakers that we're very familiar with which quickly reveal any discrepancies. Some tunerss will then move into our listening room where they are tested with our in-house reference speakers of choice.
