If you like late 70’s industrial design then you’ve found a perfect amplifier.

Probably the most over built 110W amplifier I’ve seen. Why would AR overbuild an amplifier? Well… things that are overbuilt are likely to last longer, work cooler and with less effort. In audio this often results in magic. Yes it’s expensive but the outcome is worth the effort.

At close to 100 lbs. this thing is a tank. It feels and looks like one too. The knobs on the front are total industrial feel. The meters are right out of a warship electrical panel, it almost looks like a piece of military listening equipment. The size of the transformer and storage capacitors is ridiculous. Could probably kill you if you stuck your fingers in the wrong place.

This particular example works as it should. I have gone through it very carefully and tested it to its theoretical limit without a hitch. I’ve replaced the lamps which will last another 40 years and checked all the capacitors for any sighs of leakage or issues. The output signal is super clean and reflected in my oscilloscope using a reference signal.

Cosmetically in really nice shape for its age. The meters are perfect with no bubbling or discoloration, the font panel is free from any scratches or dents and the rest of the metalwork is very presentable. There is an occasional scratch or scuff on the black paint but nothing worth mentioning.

For the money you’d be hard pressed to find a better value especially since this American made beast comes from the legendary maker Audio Research, still making great products.
